Re: What have you seen
Sat outside the Van. A group of House Martins saw a Sparrowhawk sitting around the top of a tree so did they hide? No, the brave little tikes charged it causing it to take to the skies and fly off with all of the group giving it hell as it went. Such bravery.
Second time we've seen them chase a Sparrowhawk plus once yesterday chasing a marauding Kestrel
Re: What are you all up to
Phew. Hope those folks out touring with dogs finding some shade for them.
We were a bit tardy in rising this morning so decided to go for a local walk, after moving the Van from pitch 2 to pitch 1. Long story that I won't bore you with. Took all of 5 minutes
Didn't go mad with walk so back at Van for 1pm so decided to walk to the pub for lunch. Sitting in the shade now. We're thinking of leaving late tonight to avoid heat due tomorrow.

Re: Disappearing Dustbins
Have you ever or now have osteoarthritis in your hip/s, don't knock it till you've tried it. I have a motorhome, so no car, and everytime I need to take rubbish to bin, would have to unhook it.
Re: This Month’s Magazine Cover – Dreaming of New Zealand?
Thanks for sharing @MikeyB. It's nice to have family in these destinations, as you get to experience the destination as a local too, with their authentic and trusted recommendations.
If you end up considering a motorhome for that next trip, do let our Worldwide Holidays team know if we can be of any support. Even if it's to just book the flight and assist with arranging the motorhome hire. You may wish to take a look at our suggested itinerary "Australia's Southern Delights" to get some inspiration for that part of the journey between Sydney and Melbourne.

Re: Disappearing Dustbins
Last year at Chatsworth the wardens had propped open the lids of the large waste bins, so as long as someone was able to drop their rubbish into the appropriate bin they should not have a problem. However, I realise this may be an issue for someone with limited mobility.
Surely most of the people staying on a site are able to walk to the place where they can deposit their rubbish into the relevant bin. Now that we are trying to reduce the amount of plastic waste that is generated, an extra few yards to place our rubbish into a communal bin can’t be that much to ask.
Having said that, I have seen other instances where there are traditional bins, and people have just dumped rubbish into the first bin they come across.
Re: Battery Offers
I haven't a lot to lose @Freddy55 even with a grade C battery considering a replacement AGM is priced similarly. My original battery was sealed lead acid. I got 7 years of use out of it and thought replacing it with an AGM I might get a bit longer. Its now 6 years old and showing its age! I doubt I will be touring in another 6 years so its unlikely I will be aware of the replacements true performance unless it develops a fault. Its supposed to be guaranteed for 5 years.

Re: Disappearing Dustbins
I just leave the rubbish bags outside at front of van, open to attack by vermin and weather, smelling, and looking awful, until we leave next Tuesday, as neither of us is able to walk the distance to the rubbish bins at reception.
Don't you go off site at all? You can dispose of them then rather than leave the bags lying around.

Re: Share your hidden gems!
As per Euro's suggestion: Beware, access to Whitsands beach is only for the very fit.
Re: Share your hidden gems!
None of us should give away secrets, Ro, but if you are coming to Cornwall and want the antidote to crowded places like Newquay and St Ives then there are possibilities without driving for another hour.
Park on the Plymouth side of the water and take the little passenger ferry across to Cremyll - explore Mount Edcumbe country park and then go to the pub. Or walk around the coastal footpath to the twin villages of Kingsand and Cawsand and take the bus back. Or drive across the Torpoint vehicle ferry and find the NT Antony House on one of the few days a week when it’s open, but go down to the riverside there as well and find their woodland garden - hardly anyone does, but maybe the extra entrance fee puts them off.
It’s all relatively peaceful compared with the tourist resorts. And even the big spectacular beach at Whitsand Bay is really only busy at weekends when the Janners arrive in force.
