Re: Site Fees
@peedee Of course bookings are not made in the knowledge that you may wish to cancel? as you post, although I would add in a 'not many' before the bookings.
But things do happen that prevent one from taking up that booking and these do happen. Do you have breakdown insurance PD? Do you insure your possessions? According to your logic why? Surely you don't make them in the knowledge you may need them? No of course not, they are made to cover your money in case something does unexpectedly happen. It's not a question there is a doubt you won't be able to honour that booking it is once gain to stop you losing a lot of money.
In the Greenacres example I gave a week would come it at £245, two weeks… and so on. A week's deposit is £50 Then one has to pay all of of the rest two weeks before.
Now I would assume anyone paying two weeks before is highly likely to want to honour that book, but something may happen unexpectedly during those two weeks and then all that money is lost.
So even For some, with the full intentions of honouring a booking, higher deposits, money up front, charges for dogs and awnings etc. is irrelevant. It is in fact highly relevant as things can happen right up to the last minute. I wish it were not so as you appear to suggest?
I'm sure you know with the club, all you may lose in £5. Now to me that is worth thinking about in choosing a non club site?
Re: Insurance for cancelling bookings in the UK
As far as Club sites are concerned I doubt insurance would be worth while. However commercial sites that demand large deposits and often full payment weeks before you arrive it might be a worthwhile option but you would have to look at any policy excess to see if it were worthwhile. In recent years we lost a fair amount of money where we had to pay in full before arrival. I appreciate that campsites have to protect their income but its a shame that some don't show a little more leeway, Interesting that it some of the best known campsites who are the least flexible, having said that in many years of camping we have lost relatively little in the scheme of things and you could just conclude that its better just to take it on the chin?

Re: What are you all up to
Hi Everyone
About time i gave you an update. I actually came home from the Re-Hab Centre on Tuesday this week having been there for about 7 weeks. I was delayed leaving a little due to some work needed to be done in the house, more stair rails in the main. The Physio Team at the Centre were excellent. They taught me how to climb stairs and develop my walking skills, albeit with the aid of a three pronged stick. We may need further changes to the house depending on the progress I make. Both Paul and Simon have made other adaptions to make life a little easier. Now I am home poor Margaret is taking on the task of looking after me. Still have to be careful when walking around as its easy to loose balance so being ultra cautious. Left arm still pretty weird, its just a question of forcing it to do thing in the hope the brain will learn accept the changes. I am pretty exhausted but I was warned when I left the Centre that I would sleep a lot! Nice to be eating home food again. Since this has happened I have lost abut two stone in weight which is probably no bad thing? I think its now just a case of working on the leg strength to improve the walking and maybe in time not needing a walking aid, even if that was just around the house
Thanks to those who have asked after my progress. Would love to be able to drive but suspect that is a little way off but will be working towards that. I have an appointment at MK Hospital in early August so hopefully that will point the way forward. I am still to get more physio at home but that is yet to be arranged. I think its a case of battling on and hoping for small improvements as time goes by?

Re: What are you all up to
@Wherenext Have had Aligot before will see what is on the menus when we get there and thanks for birthday wishes will be 75 both of us.
@Takethedogalong Glad you had a good day out and great photos and as WN said it has been a good year for butterflies some I have not seen before.
Just had a couple of short showers but could do with more.
Not had our holiday to UK yet and now looking at next year possibly North Devon somewhere near RHS Rosemoor gardens had a short browse but will look again another day self catering again.
Re: What are you all up to
Many congratulations @Goldie146 and enjoy your birthday celebrations @RedKite .
Lovely photos @Takethedogalong - sound like you had a good day out. I've often thought about that site at Fraisthorpe - would be great for dog walking - being virtually on the beach - wouldn't fancy taking a caravan down that single track road, though😮. We know Burton Agnes quite well. When Susan Cunliffe-Lister was Lord Lieutenant, she used to host an annual reception for St John Ambulance - when I worked for them - and she usually gave us a conducted tour of her house.😀
Re: What are you all up to
Same from me @Goldie146. Enjoy your day.
It's been quite a good year for butterflies @Takethedogalong. Nice pics and glad you had a lovely day. We've just booked 3 nights away next week down near Porthmadog/Criccieth area. MiLs favourite carer coming in twice a day.
OH currently going through her new phone with her, I think this is the 5th or 6th. run! Her patience is astounding. Been stuck indoors today doing lots of admin as our landline was promptly disconnected at 9 am sharp by BT. First time they've ever done anything quickly.
Hope you enjoy your birthdays @RedKite. Will you trying the Aligot?
Re: Fiat Ducato panel van conversion rear suspension rubber buffer missing
How old is your van and is it still within the Fiat warranty period?
Did you get your quote from a Fiat Professional garage or some other commercial vehicle workshop or a motorhome dealer?
Have you checked Fiat Ducato forums rather than camping/motorhome forums as this is very much a base vehicle issue?
Re: Site Fees
Bunree has always been pretty expensive, but maybe more so now that it has just had an upgrade? Certainly too much for our budget these days.
We remain members for the CLs, rarely use a CAMC site these days. We are also CCC members and use a few of their sites every year as we get a discount. Last time we were in that part of Scotland we used their Glencoe site. It could do with a serious upgrade of the facilities, but as we rarely use site facilities we are not really bothered, rather have the lower price.
Re: Site Fees
I think it also depends on how often you go away. We only manage about 10 nights a year - so each trip is a treat, and as long as we are away (and the site suits us) we’re happy to pay CAMC fees. It maybe would be different if we got away more often.
