Re: Caravan friendly services on the A17
Can’t help with services, but there is a very big ox bow layby just after Cranwell Aviation Museum (on your right) that is easy to drive through, providing it’s not busy. A17 can be a slow route, so plan well.
Re: SATNAV Apps
Sorry I thought Waze could be set up for car and caravans but on checking this is not so. The only other one I can recommend is Co-Pilot. You can try it free for a short period after which if you wish to continue to use it there is a subscription.

Re: Using French Tolls (Cat 2)
Don't worry, there are sensors which will prevent this happening. However, I would recommend you got a tag as this makes life so much easier. We've been using ATMB for several years without any problems, and the extra cost over cash / credit card is minimal - €1.90 for each month when it is used.
Re: Diesel, Petrol or Hybrid
Putting aside budget and weight of caravan, there are 3 types of petrol hybrid. Mild, which is a small battery and electric motor set up to provide marginal support the ICE. The car will not run in any form of EV mode. Full, uses a larger battery/motor package which provides significant back up and can run in EV only mode for a few miles at lower speeds. Plug in hybrid as the name suggests is part EV, part ICE powered. These are charged the same as an EV or, can be charged from The engine and with regenerative braking. EV only range can be upto 60 miles with the very latest systems. Most are much less. The benefit of Full and Plug-in hybrids is they can bring diesel rivalling levels of power, torque and economy, albeit at a cost to buy new. The other disadvantage is they often come with quite low tow weight limits so care is needed when researching options. I have a a RAV4 PHEV and it suits our life style very well. The economy for a 2 tonne SUV is amazing and performance matches a hot hatch.
You need to decide your needs in a car now and in the near future. Research the options within your budget and when you have a short list go on the forums for the relevant models. Albeit another topic altogether Personally I think diesel is getting an unfair hammering. Had the same money invested in the ultimately dead end EV technology in recent years been spent on clean diesel tech, we would be better served.
Re: 2024 Stork Webcam
Just checked in on the nest cam. Wow, one week on and all four chicks doing fine. Nearly as big as the adults. 👍

Re: What are you all up to
Thanks 👍 We had a few downpours overnight, but just cloudy this morning so decided to take a chance and visit the Tower Of London. We joined a tour with one of the Beefeaters, very informative and amusing. I had no idea it was such a large area, the exhibits are something to behold, very impressive. We didn’t get to see everything as SWMBO is struggling with her hip, fingers crossed she will be ok for another toddle tomorrow, which is earmarked for a trip to Greenwich. As an aside, I’m always impressed by the transport network here, fast and efficient, oh for something similar in Bristol.

Re: What do you do in your spare time ?
I am not a fan of large charities with CEO’s raking it in so our charity work has been within our community, Scout Group and our local church

Re: What are you all up to
Another two fine days on the Monday coast. Yesterday we visited the Spey Bay Dolphin centre, and was fortunate to see an Osprey feeding near the mouth of the river, but no signs of the dolpins.
This morning we walked the coastal path from the village to Portknockie and back, before having lunch down by the shore at Sandy Creek. A second walk around the harbour followed.
Re: What are you all up to
Enjoyed a trip to Portmeirion today. Haven’t been there since I was about nine years old whilst on a caravanning holiday with my parents. It hasn’t changed much from what I remember. We were then staying on Mochras which at that time was like a CL with only a handful of vans/tents allowed.
Yes, Portmeirion is quirky and has that certain false feeling about it but it seems to have achieved and maintained this with some degree of decorum and style. The grounds, beaches, walks and vistas from the village, which look across Bae Tremadoc, are absolutely stunning. Specimen trees and flora have been planted and make for a pleasant stroll. We departed with ‘be seeing you’ ringing in our ears!
We finished the day with a visit to the Glaslyn Ospreys. The sun shone and the birds put on a show for us. Recommended. Loved it.

Re: Help - installing solar panels
As long as you can keep within the maximum gross weight, I don't see why you could not balance the total load to maintain safety and nose weight.
