86 Percent of Dog Owners Take Their Pets on Holiday - Do You?

It's official - us dog owners love to take our beloved 4 legged friends with us! In our recent survey we discovered that 86 percent of dog owners take their furry friends on holiday because they consider them part of the family.

Leading the pack are Labradors, with 22 percent of respondents favouring them for their travels. Not far behind are Golden Retrievers (18 percent), followed by Jack Russells, Cocker Spaniels, and Mixed Breed rescue dogs (14 percent). This highlights the growing trend of pet-inclusive holidays, where our beloved pets are not just passengers but cherished travel buddies.

There's some interesting finds in the survey. My particular favourite is the unusual pets that people take away with them. Among the most unusual pets taken on trips were bearded dragons, snakes, cats, fish and rabbits!

I will share more of the survey results here but in the meantime, do you take your dog on tour?

Always do and always have, well since we first got one about 45 hrs ago, as they have been part of our family just as much as our children have. We would never think of going away without him/them.

We have always toured with our dogs, from before we got married, on honeymoon, right up to the present day. Tents, campers, caravans, motorhome, cottages, hotels, B&Bs……..they have been with us on almost every adventure. We even took the cat a couple of times, (very elderly, he was a blinking nuisance to be honest). We have seen a good few cats on tour, regularly met up with a touring tortoise, and watched a parrot eat it’s way out of an awning at Marazion. I always fancied having a travelling Guinea Pig, but OH wasn’t keen.🤣

Our current dog has done thousands of miles with us in the 15 years we have shared our lives with him. A gorgeous chocolate Labrador, sadly now too frail to tour. We shall miss him terribly when we get back out, but it will be easier getting to the loo in the MH🤣

Three Airedales too tired to do anything a hot Summer in Cornwall. Note the grumpy cat who no one wanted to share a seat with!😁

Being our first dog, and although I like to think she has been well trained - she is also a bit pampered😁 We would never dream of not taking her with us - wherever we go. She is a bit 'needy' and I think she would be heart-broken if we ever left her in kennels. She gets agitated if just one of us is out of the house for a couple of hours! On the morning of setting off in the van - as we get the final things into the van and car, she just won't settle until she's in her crate in the back of the car. I'm sure she thinks she's going to be left behind!

Such lovely pictures! Thank you for sharing. Millie loves it when she comes away with us too (our Bocker). Lots of walks and closer together as her pack!

@Rowena yes, I think they love being so close. We have had nine lovely dogs throughout our married life, a Rottweiler, five Airedales, and three Labradors (one Lab was 15 when she came to us, had been MIL beloved last dog and we gave her the last two years of her very long doggy life. She never came with us touring though) They all loved being away. We had to get the MH ready with Millie in it, once that door was open she wouldn’t budge until it re opened somewhere interesting.🤣

Dina, our rescued Rottweiler. She came on honeymoon in our tiny camper. She walked a good deal of the Cornish Coast footpath with us in the 1980’s. We had no security issues leaving our belongings on the beach while we went for a swim🤣 The Airedales on the other hand used to bury everything😱

@GEandGJE lovely😁 We used to turn our cab seats to face each other, put the arm rests down, put Millie’s dog bed across, she would climb in and not move all night. Rieves on the other hand🫣 he insisted on being on the floor, blocking the fridge door, the bathroom door, and then he’d hibernate like a blinking mole under the bed at some point, requiring either a front leg drag or a rear leg drag back out. We remembered to measure the parking space at home, but somehow forgot we had two big Labradors when we bought our 5.5 metre MH🤣 But we managed ok.

@richardandros its that Beatle hair cut, melts everyone’s heart👍 He’s blinking fit as well for his age. 😁

Thank you both, he is doing well for his age, but I think we will be having to cut short some of his walks a bit shorter soon as his limp is getting more exaggerated. It costs a fortune getting his perm just right each week!!😁

If we had a pound for every time someone commented on his hair we would be able to afford to stay on a club site occasionally!😉

Madam on holiday🤭 Guess who found a muddy pond, much to her delight. She was a mud magnet, but a few buckets and some shampoo restored her to golden glory. Millie was 7 when we rehomed her, but she had 5 lovely years travelling all over with us.

Okay, she's not mine. But I'm like her foster parent when we go away and my friends bring her! She's called Lilo and she loves an adventure! She sleeps in the back of the 4x4 whilst we're all in roof tents and she's happy as anything to do so as it's her space (saves getting the roof tent wet and muddy too as Spaniels love water!). In winter, they run a 12v heated pad for her to stay warm and comfortable.

@Jameschlewis, she's a lovely looking Springer, very much like Reuel, our second one.
