Just to get this group started I would suggest the C&CC's Winchcombe site. Parking the van looking onto pond there are lots going on even in December, but I imagine it would be even better in the Spring.

Wirral CP. Technically you could set up a telescope and view the estuary from site, even binoculars if the tide pushes the birds closer to shore but the advantage of the site lies within walking distance. Up or down the Wirral Way, accessed from site entrance will bring you to spots for estuary watching and in Spring and Autumn the bushes and small trees that line the route will hold Warblers and migrating birds like Redwing and Fieldfare.

Kendal Site (CAMC) is another where if you stroll the woods behind the site you may come across Deer and Crossbills. The river Kent at the bottom of the site has Grey Wagtails, Dippers and the occasional Kingfisher and in April and May you could well see Woodcock roding over the site itself. We have.

Is Thetford CAMC still operational or have the money counters closed it yet? If open then a walk to the top of the wooded hill behind the site and accessed from the site will take you at Dusk to see Nightjars and Owls.

More to follow when my brain gets in gear.

@Wherenext the Thetford site is still open, and we have seen Munjac deer, and Crossbills on the Hornbeams along the top forest drive.

Good to know @nelliethehooker that its still open. Yes, we've gone up there in daylight and seen deer.

There are loads of CLs that are great for nature watching but my brain has closed down for the night and specific ones escape me for the moment.

Another couple of C&CC sites which would be good for wildlife watching are Rosemarkie, overlooking Chanonry Point and the Cromarty Fifth, an excellent place for spotting Dolphins, and their Nairn site, set in a Scots Pine wood where one can expect to see Red Squirrels, Roe Deer and Crossbills.
