What are you all up to

Wow!! So different here in Devon. Very little chance of getting social housing. Almost none to be had. Maybe to do with so many second home owners here paying less council tax. Also very high percentage of elderly. Devon local councils always short of money.

Many families live on less and don't claim benefits, its called living within your means. Over the last year you have told us how your first marriage broke down because of debts, how you run away to China because you couldn't manage. Now you have the nerve to say you can't manage on £1500 a month. I put it to you that its time you took a long hard luck at yourself, wine, whiskey, expensive NT membership, £15 a month to credit checker all these are not the habits of someone who is poor.

Raided the back of the fridge so I parboiled some potatoes, cut them up small, sauteed some Red Onion half moon rings, put the in a large dish, diced some fine gruyere and grated some parmesan. Mingled them in with seasoning and a bit of hot smoked paprika. Into the oven with some sausages, in a separate dish, browned in a pan and sauced with my own mixture of Seasame Oil, Balsamic Vinegar, Honey, Mirin, A dash of Tomato Sauce and a heaped teaspoon of Wholegrain mustard. 40 minutes in the oven and served with steamed sweetheart cabbage.
I have to say that there are no leftovers so fully satisfied but non paying customers.

I had to venture out this morning as daughter and I were on coffee duty at the Cathedral. There was a surprisingly good turn out considering the weather. I have sat by the fire reading the Sunday papers most of the afternoon. If it's no warmer tomorrow I am not going anywhere. It will be inside jobs all day. I can remember snow at this time of year before but I don't remember it being so bitterly cold.
It sounds as though you have had a good day Helen. What a wonderful number of birds. Have a safe journey if you venture home tomorrow.

Late start this morning, it is Sunday after all.
Then we drove up to the big market at Teguise, last visit for this holiday bought a few bits and bobs this time.
Had a spot of lunch there, then a drive up to the Northeast of the island this week. The drive took us over the highest part of the island, the clouds were so low we were driving through them at one point.
Prior to us arriving they had a lot of rain 3 weeks of it they say. The effect it has had is stunning to see, so many flowering plants, the hills (volcanoes) green instead of black lava, lots of plants and flowers bursting with blooms. We've been coming here for around 15 years and never seen it like this before beautiful.
Back in time for a bit more bronzy bronzy
a nice ice cream and a nap on the sunbed.
Sorry to hear of the bad weather back home, no honest we are. Hope you all stay safe and warm.

No need to be sorry Husky.
We have a joint income of about £47,000 with income from investments included and now that I also get a state pension.
Whilst we do not spend that amount it does mean that we are not careful.
£18,000 would be ample if I were single,

My memory has partly failed me! I've just googled it and it wasn't the open air pool but a purpose built open air dolphinarium built on the sea front. Amazingly it was open from 1964 - 1990. I never realised it went on for so long as I definitely saw it in the 1960s but never went again.
It wasn't up to Sea World Florida standard that is for sure

Ah yes, I remember the dolphins on Morecambe sea front. They were next to the Midland Hotel that has been restored in recent years.
Just a pity that the old pool is still so run down.
Happy Mount Park was a great place to take the family back then but the rot set in when they turned it into a Mr Blobby theme park.

Sorry to hear that you've had to cancel your lunch, brue. It's been a bit better today with a bit of a thaw, and all the roads round here appear clear of snow. Just hope that it doesn't freeze overnight, as we hope to pop into Lincoln tomorrow morning, as this is our last day here before we head over to Ilkley, the first part of our homeward journey.

+1 Yes sorry you had to cancel your lunch Brue.
We are having our meal out tomorrow evening with our daughters and their families.
Hope you have a good last day out in Lincoln Nellie and safe journey to Ilkley.

Isn't there talk of them refurbishing Grange Baths, Goldie. I can remember them when they were in use, although I don't think I ever swam in them. I did use the ones at Biggar Bank, Walney, do you remember them? They're gone completely now though.

Love art deco architecture and the hotel looks just great. Can't be certain but think I've seen it on TV.
Busy day today starting with checking the caravan and picking up the empty gas bottle as tomorrow going to get a Safefill bottle.
Off to see grandtwins later for them to show off their new bikes to us.
Fortunately the sun is out and although cold, wind still strong easterly, is due to moderate and move northward.

I remember Morecambe pool on a family holiday when young, very cold with "beauty parades" going on....lots of goose pimpled ladies.
We had a lot more snow overnight, very icy this morning. Not much fun for those stuck on the A30 last night. Hope it thaws now, need to get out.

That looks great Goldie. I love Art Deco architecture. The only place we have been to on the north west coast is Grange-over-Sands. Nice little town. OH likes the Pie Shop! Did it used to be on the sea and if so when did the sea disappear?
The sun is out here and OH who has been to fetch the paper says it is warmer - or more accurately slightly less cold.

No longer possible, cariadon. That thread has been closed.
Tammygirl, I think you might have got the wrong idea in what you said. I have two brothers. The eldest one who sends me monthly gifts has a warehousing business overseas. He is presently 83 years old but still working. If I can follow his example, maybe I could still be working delivering Pizzas in 20 years time. Who knows? As long as I can continue to live there will be enough income to financially support us both.
My second brother, who is also older than me is the one whose wife runs a bed and breakfast business near Bath. He and his wife refuse to have contact with me and my present wife in order to curry favour with my ex-wife, my son and my granddaughter. He has made it very clear that there is no way he can afford to give us any financial support. Incidentally he is 75 years old and his wife is also in her seventies.
It might not happen that I'll lose my seasonal pitch over Easter. The warden is hoping that the weather will improve sufficiently to get us on to our seasonal pitch by 30th March. However, if the weather continues to deteriorate, there is the possibility that we will have to wild camp for a few days due to all the sites being fully booked over the Easter holiday period. This is because the warden will cancel bookings and ask people to move off the site if the pitches become unusable.
It's an unprecedented situation for us in that it has never happened before but given those circumstances, we may have to park outside overnight for any nights that pitches are unavailable as the warden has said to us that we cannot be accommodated in the late night arrivals.

Not any longer, Tinwheeler. One thread has been closed so only two left! I was working yesterday evening so didn't get to read or reply to any of the comments. I just caught up with it all this morning. Now I can't reply because the topic is closed!
However, all of that discussion about my wife being left in a caravan parked on a public street near the club site might never happen. If the weather improves sufficiently for our seasonal pitch to become usuable, the warden will get us on to it as soon as it can be done. However, it has been made clear to us that there is nothing the warden can do if the weather continues to deteriorate over the Easter period when all the club sites are fully booked in this area. In those circumstances, we would have nowhere else to park our caravan except on a street outside for any nights that pitches are unavailable. The warden had to make it clear to us that it is our responsibility to find alternative accommodation for our caravan in the event of this happening. If the street is the only place available, then so be it! I doubt anyone is going to object to just one or two nights over a Bank Holiday period in circumstances where there is nowhere else to go!

Still very cold and icy here at Chapel Lane. The sun keeps breaking through though, so things should start to thaw soon. All water points are still frozen and water has to be obtained from the pot washing area. These have very low flow rates, so I think I will leave filling up till later when hopefully the outside ones thaw out. Also it will be a bit safer underfoot. The area round the block is OK but the site roads are currently very slippery. We have kept water and drainage in the main caravan sink, as that drains more or less directly out of the van and I wrapped an old high viz coat around the aqua roll. The bathroom sink which has a long run underneath is iced up, but starting to thaw. Hopefully spring is now starting again and this is the last of the beast until next winter.🤞

Let's hope so Steve. I hope all your pipes thaw out soon. Looking at the weather forecast it is going to get progressively warmer throughout the week and reach double figures!!

Poirot! Though it wasn't called Morecambe in the episode, and the shots of the town were filmed in KIrkby Lonsdale. Artistic licence!

Absolutely correct, ttda! It will now have to be down to two threads because one thread has been closed!

That may be because your house is paid for so no mortgage or rent to pay. We would have to pay rent if we moved into a property.
