Steve we stayed in that area a few years ago as we have friends who live there. We visited both Packwood House and Baddesley Clinton and loved them both. There are some lovely NT properties around there. Stay safe and warm today and hope to get to Baddesley tomorrow. It is such an interesting house.

I'm better off because of living in a caravan, cariadon. There are many people living in rented accommodation that have to live on benefits because they can't afford the rent and council tax. If they get a job they lose their benefits so still have to struggle. The benefit money is often not enough to live on so they get into arrears with their rent. I wouldn't want to live like that and have found a way out of it by living in a caravan!

Now we seem to have 3 threads dominated by the same trivia. Please, no one start a 4th!

No more snow for us overnight and by 9am patio clear of snow so temperature must have risen slightly, not that you' think that if you step outside brrrrrrrr ❄🌬❄ thermometer says 0c.
OH just ventured out to get some cash 🐧⛄🍙 I declined the walk.
Prepared casserole and placed in oven - removed to stir. Barely warm 😲 cursing as that oven was repaired before Christmas 😤😭. Discovered I'd put top oven on phew 😂😂😂. Dinner a good hour later than intended! Put it down to jetlag and non use of cooking equipment for 3 months 😂😂😂
Those poor folk at Hemsby.
Stay warm and safe folks.

Sorry, will try and keep my comments relating to caravan living to the Living in a house vs living in a caravan thread.
But some comments with regards to finances gets an answer mentioning caravan living even if the main comment does not mention it

Don't know what all the fuss is about to be honest. A lot could change in next few days weatherwise, and all the wise advice will have been wasted. Couple have found lifestyle that suits them, for a variety of reasons, no rules broken, let them get on with it. Preferably on no more than two threads if at all possible!
We shall be venturing out shortly, fleece lined trousers and snow boots on, 4 wheel drive engaged, and missions to complete. Keep safe and warm, wherever you are!

With all our pensions and incomes we are on the same as you and we run a house (with all the so called "problems" you keep saying we have)and still manged over 150 nights away last year on 99% cc sites, plus other leisure trips as we want

We check on a few folks, I know Mum is ok as she spent afternoon with us yesterday. Never shut up about "how shall we get home?", despite loving a ride in 4x4. We were in convoy yesterday, me and Mum in one, OH and Sister in other! Lots of abandoned cars, obviously stuck on some of hills. It will all be gone by Tuesday!

On the subject of street side "camping", I noticed about three MH/RV's parked up on the approach road to the CAMC Brighton site yesterday.

We noticed that throughout our stay at Brighton. It's the same here in Worthing on Fulbeck Avenue adjacent to the club site.

We are just home from a lovely weekend at Ayr Craigie Gardens C&MC it was opening weekend so we were able to get a good pitch as we arrived early on Friday morning. Was very cold this morning but no snow. It was an easy 35 min tow home today now just watching the football with a nice warm coffee. Its too cold outside so doubt we will venture out again today.

We are due to travel home tomorrow , going to see what it's like in the morning as more snow in the forecast over night. Ventured out earlier roads were clear but boy was it cold!

We donned our boots, gloves and woolly hats and ventured out to Arne this morning, it looked like a winter wonderland
lots of birds on the feeders making the most of the food. Had a walk through the woods, the paths were fairly clear of snow.
This afternoon has been spent relaxing and keeping warm in the van. Watching the birds on the feeders we put out on site, with the bird book on hand. Idenified 14 different varieties including a Nuthatch first I've seen and a great spotted Woodpecker even fed on the fat block.
Haven't had any more snow this afternoon, but it's a bit chilly!

It’s another bitterly cold day here, with constant wind (40 - 50 mph). The temperature is hovering around zero (mainly below) with windchill of up to (or down to?) minus 10.
Yesterday a few flakes of snow turned into a whiteout and we cancelled our meal out as visibility was non existent. I had hoped to avoid cooking supper, but had to rummage in the fridge and freezer to make a sort of Prawn Biriyani.
On Tuesday we went to Morecambe to a gig at The Platform (the old railway booking hall). Police Dog Hogan were on magnificent form - catch them if you can. Look here - https://policedoghogan.com/
As a treat (“because we can”) we stayed over at The Midland Hotel.
Look here

Morecambe has seen better days (just keep your eyes towards the sea), but the hotel and gig venue are worth visiting.
And if you’re caravanning you can probably park up along the front. There’s always several rather shabby motorhomes at the northern end.

Goldie, Do you remember the dolphins in the open air swimming pool at Morecambe back in the 1960s?

Another bitterly cold day here, we woke up to about 3 inches of snow that had fallen overnight.
Roads pretty clear however so we carried on with our plan to visit son and family in Ayrshire. Stopped off to see grandson on the way, less snow there, all fine and he was mainly sleeping.
Down in Ayrshire there was no snow on the ground at all, but quite a few flurries while we were there.
Most snow gone when we got back home as there has been a couple of hours of sun. Cannot have been more than that as the house was cold when we returned.
OH has found something in the freezer to have for dinner, so just waiting for it to be ready.

I don't know about other areas, but where we are there is reasonable availability of housing for the over 65s, even if you own your own house you can apply to go on the list for one of these houses and sell your own once you move in.
Only needs one of a couple to be over 65 and there is no income or savings limit.
If on low income there is help with rent and council tax.
