We've arrived at Northbrook Farm and got a shock on arrival. The seasonal pitches are all out of use because of soggy ground. So we have got a hardstanding pitch at full price because they are not allowed to use any of the hardstanding pitches for seasonal pitch holders even though there are hardstanding pitches available that have not been pre-booked.

The new warden said that we will be refunded £5.60 for each night the seasonal pitch is out of use but we had to pay £14.50 a night for a hardstanding pitch. No knowing when the seasonal pitch will become available but the warden advised at least another week so recommended we book the hardstanding for at least 7 nights. So we had to pay £101.50 on arrival unexpectedly! So I think that answers your question, cariadon, regarding B&B to give my wife a break! The extra money has been paid to the CMC instead!

Anyway, at least we know which pitch we'll get when it does eventually become available. It seems that it's been put back until 31st March which means 2 weeks, so after the 7 nights are up, we'll need to pay another 7 nights of £101.50. That's why I keep plenty of credit available on my credit cards. It means there are plenty of funds available in case of an emergency like this. It's like the Scouts motto of be prepared!

Unless I was happy with that Malcolm I would be taking it up further with head office. You have, after all, already paid for a pitch. I think that the warden is out of order.

The last time we stayed on this site, it was only for the last two nights of the season having been on the 21 night rule of 2 nights away. On that occasion the warden gave us a hardstanding pitch without charging extra but it was a different warden and this new warden told us that they weren't supposed to do that. She said she had checked with the head office and was told by them not to use the hardstanding for seasonal pitch holders. It seems that others who have come here for their seasonal pitches have also gone on to hardstanding and paid the full price for two weeks. So it seems a no win situation for me. So there goes my extra hours of Pizza Hut pay!

It may be the Wardens interpretation, ring up and speak to someone at head office.

Does not seem right to me, you should be offered something of equal value or better for the same 'dosh', I wouldn't accept it at face value and would clarify.

Sorry but you need to contact Head office yourself and speak to sites operations because you have paid for your seasonal pitch and the soggy ground is  not your fault and you should not have to pay any extra because the site staff have put you on a hardstanding due to ground conditions, it is exceptional circumstances. Do this as soon as possible the phone number may be on the back of membership card if not ring the main phone number and they will put you through.

That is terrible Malcolm as others have said, contact CMC headoffice NOW and ask them to email the answer they give you so you have it in writing. I remember a few years ago a member who was a solo caravanner had her holidays cancelled a day before travel, due to waterlogged pitches, even though she had booked months before, and the reason given was she was on her own, when others had more occupants, = more money.

I remember that event too and the responses....undecided

Well, it has been sunny all day and OH has managed to do some lawn cutting, quiet warm outside.

You would have thought that the club would realise that March is a bit early to use grass pitches and that as soon as they realise the pitches cannot be used for seasonal that they contact the members and delay their starting date.

I suppose that is in effect what they have done, as they are refunding the nightly equivalent of the seasonal pitch fee, as per the rules presumably.

Most people taking up a seasonal pitch are not dependent on getting onto the pitch at noon on the first day.

The warden is quite correct that Hardstandings are not normally to be used for seasonal pitches, but as your booked seasonal pitch is unusable then,if a hardstanding has to be used then that does not mean it should cost you more, unless there is something in your "contract" that says so, ,as others have said contact the sites department at EGH on monday, ,what are the other seasonals doing about it

OK the grass pitches are wet now but who is to say they won't be wet in the months to come. Does this mean if pitches are deemed to be wet during the summer MM may be asked to vacate?

Probably like users on all grass sites they'd get a message to delay arriving. We've been cancelled/delayed previously on grass pitches. At least, as you say the seasonal pitch fee has been refunded.

Apparently so, the Club can make emergency closures but will try to offer an equivalent.  Where this is not possible you are entitled to a full refund, or to transfer to another site,  or pitch type (presumably as in a non seasonal pitch)

There seems to be plenty of get out clauses  in the T&Cs!

Yes , they are essentially holiday pitches and weather or event dependent on usage.

    Sad day today.

We arrived home from our break at Wirral CP, packing up in the torrential rain, only to find that our 93 year old neighbour had passed away. She is the one we were on call for if anything happened. She went into hospital about a fortnight ago and unfortunately they were unable to operate on the gangrene that had set in to her feet and she gave up the fight last night. A bit like others that have gone recently, she had an active and astute mind but in a frail body. She lived a good life but she would have wanted to be euthanised as she had often talked of it to us.

Also met our new neighbour to be. Mm.

MillieH, we stay in Puerto Del Carmen these days as we have 3 consecutive weeks in a timeshare apartment. We have in the past stayed at Playa Banca.

Spent a fabulous day exploring RSPB Arne  in lovely warm sunshine. It's a really diverse reserve with lots of trails and we managed to walk a good few of them.

Didn't manage to see a Dartford Warbler, but had some great views of the Sika Deer. Enjoyed lunch sitting in the sunshine watching the birds on the feeders. The dog was in squirrel heaven,  so many to watch.laughing

Lots of Woodpeckers in the woods, and waders in the harbour, going to have to spend time tonight with the bird books identifing them from the photos we took.

Can recommend a visit if in the area.

Breezy day today but still nice and sunny.

Sorry to hear that your seasonal pitch is unusable MM, I agree with others in that you shouldn't have to pay extra, however if that is the rules then be grateful that a) its not high season b) at least you weren't asked to go elsewhere.

I do remember you being quite annoyed when that happened with a CL, in fact I think you said it wouldn't happen with the C&MC.

Gosh that's cheap, don't think they make much money from seasonal pitches.

    Looks fantastic!

Tried to book for 4th April, to slot in with the Liverpool v Man City match in the evening. Fully booked 😱. It is the Easter school holidays so that's probably why.

Hope we have better luck with tickets for the match....

Bit of a mixed day today. Decided to come away a day early due to the forecast bad weather. Didn't fancy our exposed storage compound  in minus 8 windchill on Saturday. Decided on going round the Nottingham ringroad and A453 to junction 24 on M1, rather than through the narrow lanes and horrendous tailbacks of the Smart Motorway works. That worked well and we had a good journey through reasonable weather to Chapel Lane. Arrived about 3 pm and set up. Then whilst having a cup of coffee OH remarked that the van did not seem to be heating very well. On checking, the Alde display was totally blank. Checked fuses etc but no joy. Managed to get access to the back of the control unit and disconnected the cable that supplies data from the boiler. Plus also disconnected 12 volt supply to boiler. Reconnected everything (reboot) and fortunately the panel came back to life. Very pleased as sub zero temperatures are forecast for tomorrow. We have a back up fan heater but I think that might prove inadequate in the expected conditions.

Still not sure what caused the problem, although I suspect a poor / loose connection. The back of the Alde and Bailey caravan status control units, is a right mess off umpteen wires and connectors. Whilst trying to sort the problem a low caravan battery warning sounded and all the 12 volts failed. Pushing the connectors together solved this. Hence my suspicion of a loose connection. Anyway fingers 🤞It's working. Currently wind is starting to get up. Perhaps snow for the morning?
