Nearly right, a car can fail its MOT on a tyre(s) that are under pressure.

A quick inflation before leaving the MOT centre, and still having the previous MOT in force will still be legal to drive.

Back along it was common to put a car in for a pre MOT, where the tester would check over and replace small things like bulbs, tyre pressures, wiper blades etc.

    Not quite true H&T.

    Frrom Government website:

Taking your vehicle away for repairs
You can take your vehicle away if your MOT certificate is still valid.

If your MOT has run out you can take your vehicle to:

    have the failed defects fixed
    a pre-arranged MOT test appointment
In both cases, your vehicle still needs to meet the minimum standards of roadworthiness at all times or you can be fined.

Couldn't post yesterday so it more the case of what we did then rather than what we are doing today.

Yesterday we took the water bus to Puerto Calerro, market day there so quick look around then we walked back to Del Carmen along the cliff tops. Not a cloud in the sky and the sea was calm, lovely walk.

Today is a mixed day, bit of hand  washing done, then sunbathing while reading my book. Later will need to go and get water and bread, then a bit more sun bathing and reading.

Kj, congrats on the birth of your grandson.

H&T, have a good trip hope it doesn't snow and you get your picnic on the beach.

Yes, I know you can take car away to be fixed and to and from MOT but it isn't supposed to be used on the road for "pleasure trips" hubby will bring vehicle home if it fails on anything to do the work himself, then will only use it to take back to be re tested.

I would have no objection to copper coins disappearing as I very rarely used them and generally consider them to be a nuisance in my pocket. Any donations I make are at least silver coloured coins, or higher, so I don't think charities will be at a particular disadvantage. We are rapidly moving towards a cashless society and perhaps in ten years time we might hardly use the stuff?

I think that it will have some effect on charities with regard to collecting pots. If I drop a quid in I am likely to go through my pockets and add odd five pence, 2p and 1p coins as well.

I am not so sure about charities not being disadvantaged David. I was not thinking about on street collections, or when they collect at the local supermarket, where yes it would normally be at least silver. It was those in bars, shop counters and anywhere you spend cash, where folk often but the coppers from their change,  rather than carry it about. Taken over the country as a whole the sum must mount up.

I've  got  a  number  of  the  "pots"  that  my  diabetes  testing 'sticks'  come  in,  which  I  use  for  my  small  change.  1p,  5p, 10p  fit  ok  but  a  little  delicate  surgery  needed  for  2p  coins.  Then  I  have  a  ready  stock  of  Charity  Cash  available  for  those  collecting  tins,  boxes  etc  which  I  come  across  and  all  of  'em  neatly  stored  close  to  hand  in  my  camera  bag.

20p  &  50p  are  saved  and  only  used  as  a  charitable  donation  to  my  local  councils  { Cheshire  East  money-mouth } Car  Park  located  collecting  boxes .

Now back home with caravan.  The battery has been completely drained while the van was away, so we now have no battery power to the mover to get it back on the driveway.  Van now sitting on the street, plugged in, to see if the battery can be resurrected.  yell

Stopped off on the way there to help SIL assemble the bedside crib as he is hoping his wife and baby will be allowed home this evening.

The little lad has had his first bath, which he apparently did not like as he screamed loudly the whole time!

Sounds like you are having a wonderful time Tammygirl.  We had to leave all lovely weather behind at the weekend and are now back home and looking forward to the next time.

I am sure your grandson will soon get to like his bath Kj. Hope both he and his Mum are soon home.

We have just been to check the van in storage this afternoon and it has survived the recent bad weather remarkably well, although it could do with a good clean outside.

Got the car back from the auto gearbox specialists today.  Not sure whether this is good news or not.  He couldn't replicate the vibration we have been having but has serviced the gearbox by replacing oil, inspecting, replacing damper valves which were worn, fit new filter, steel sump conversion kit, refilled with oil etc!! He couldn't find any other evidence of gearbox problem, so I guess we run it and see!

The trouble is I'm now looking for every bump, bang and vibration.  The original problem hasn't reared its head again - yet.  No doubt time will tell.

You might be better off swapping the car for a submarine if you're thinking of coming to Cornwall any time soon, David. It's been bucketing down all day!  frown

I hate it when you get an intermittent fault, David. You know darn well that it's going to disappear as soon as you get anywhere near the garage and reappear soon after it's left. That Mr.Sod has a lot to answer for.

You still snorkelling Moulesy? Thought you'd sorted your water problem out. Don't forget the rust inhibitor.

Breezy day up here on the Wirral, a real pipe opener. Nice walk though, especially as there was a pub half way round.smile

My OH was an engineer at Perkins Engines all his working life DSB and hated intermittent faults. I hope your fault has been resolved.

I hope it stops raining for you soon moulesy. You are not having a lot of luck with water at the moment frown

I agree, that was why we got rid of the XC90.  Neither dealer nor independant garage could diagnose the fault   as it never happened when they tested it.

Car went OK 90% of the time, but was just not 100% ok.

Hope that your trip to Dorset goes well H&T, and that the snow doesn't arrive.

Still water problems down in Cornwall Moulesy!! Perhaps the rain and winds will pass though quicker than forecast.

Fine day today as we drove down to a Cl near Lincoln, Diamond House. Had to do a 360 degree turn because of a closed road due to resurfacing a few miles from the site but a local directed provided an alternative route without too much of a detour. Land is quite wet but the H/S are fine and it's nice and quiet as we're the only one on site at the moment. There's a lane adjacent to the site which leads to the Water Rail Track, the surfaces cycle-way from Lincoln to Boston. Spotted a black Mink on the lane during our afternoon walk, a first for us in the wild.

DD and baby came home around 3pm today, so we are invited to visit again tomorrow pm.

Her brother and family are visiting Saturday am as he is soon off to the US on business.

Have managed to get the van onto the drive, the battery charged quite quickly, so will now check over all the electrics tomorrow morning, as the dealers electrician has a tendancy to disconnect anything he has no clue about!   There are a lot of things in our van that he has no clue about.

The name of the babe has now been confirmed as Callum.

He is not named after anyone, but apparently his Dad had a great uncle of the same name, so they decided to use that spelling.

I think Callum  looks better than Calum, so everyone is happy

This winter refuses to let go here in Yorkshire. Having cancelled our trip in late February due to the snow, we were going away on Sunday morning , but I've just amended our trip and delayed our departure as a result of a heavy snow forecast from Saturday at noon till early morning Sunday. frown

We're at Mitsubishi Brighton at the moment having the Shogun MOT done.

Last night I was late finishing work because the closing driver was off sick, so they asked me to stay until 11 p.m. On the way to work, I dropped my wife off at Asda to do some shopping and she then went on to The Railway pub for a drink and to wait for the end of my shift.

After finishing work, we went to collect the Shogun from the house address before returning to thesite. We got back just after midnight and then up early this morning to have the MOT done.
