What are you all up to

Yes but I'm employed as a driver, EasyT and I would prefer to have the time off and save them money if a situation develops where there is no more driving work to do. Yes money is useful but time off to rest is useful too! Driving in the dark where visibility is reduced further by rain and windows getting misted up for 3 to 4 hours is challenging to say the least!
Roll on 25th March when the clocks go forward one hour so that most of my shift will be in daylight!
The next two weeks will be good weeks for money. It's payday this Friday, and my State Pension is due the following week plus the monthly gift from my eldest brother.

Off to the hospital shortly to see the consultant re my cataract. It will almost certainly involve those stinging drops to dilate your pupil, so OH is driving. Last time they used those, I would not have been safe for several hours. Hopefully I will get some idea of how quickly they might operate on it. At the moment I am loath to book a planned trip to see my sister in France, as any opp close to depature would presumably have insurance implications.

" Furthermore, my wife has her dental appointment at Guys Hospital on Thursday and will need to take the train because I'm working that evening and would be unable to get back in time for my 5 p.m. start if we went by car."
Where would you have parked MM, My wife had 3 appointments there last year. they don't have a car park, just Disabled bays (Blue badge only) and cars were queuing for them. There is very limited pay and display parking which is constantly full and I think it's in the congestion zone as well.

I am doing the same for my OH tomorrow Steve (pre-glaucoma checks due to raised pressures over the last couple of years) so good luck with your appointment and you can get an up date on what is happening. Hope the drops wear off and you can enjoy the rest of the day.
Always something isn't there.

My OH had cataract ops on both eyes last year, one in January and one in March and both went very well so good luck Steve. I hope they can give you a date soon.
Good luck to your OH as well brue.

Best wishes for a speedy resolution of your eye problems, SteveL. Like MillieH's OH I had both cataracts removed 4ish months apart about 9 or 10 years ago. But you'll have to get used to those drops I'm afraid. Cannot remember how many I had just before the op's but I seem to recall it was at least 3 lots of 3 !Not allowed to speak during the surgery of course, but I did get a rather pretty nurse to hold my hand,
.
(I still get the Dilating Drops in both eyes but only for the annual retinopthy checks, and then no driving for 12 hours.) The one thing I do advise for immediate Post Operation Days is a good pair of dark glasses -- mine are Vivienne Westwood's Best Wrap-a-rounds
. The change in brightness is something that really has to be seen* to be believed
!! I thought my neighbour had changed his beige car for a new white one honest !!
* Pun intended

Thanks brue and MH.
Hope your OH's check goes as well as mine brue. All very efficient, should get it done within about 6 weeks. Drops not too bad as such a dull day. When the nurse put them in, I mentioned those are better than the ones the optician used, they don't sting. She replied that's because they are in two parts, this bit does. 😂 And it did☹️

Rained all day so we decided to go into Liverpool to see the exhibition of the Terracotta Army. We were fortunate insofar as I didn't realise that I should have pre booked a time due to demand. Fortunately we managed to secure a timed spot in the afternoon and spent the morning looking around the Walker Art Gallery, then Mrs WN wanted some artists materials so we walked to a couple of shops that sell them.
After lunch we returned to the World Museum and really enjoyed the exhibition. They only had the exhibition going for a month and already have had over 170,000 people in to see it. I would recommend pre booking a timed slot on the internet before any visit as you may not get in, as the ticket seller told us about someone who had to arrange a further overnight stopover just so they could see what they went to Liverpool for.
Didn't stop raining all day but spent a good portion of it indoors.

Thanks ABM, I think the dark glasses are a good idea. The OH said the same as you about brightness when she had hers done.
I did try reading the mags, which dated from about 2014,😀 but as you say David it is not really possible. OH took her Kindle, I just sat and waited.

How did you find the auto, apart from the sluggishness? Was it much easier for you to drive? Today was not the best of days for anyone packing or setting up if it was anything like where we are at the moment. We've had virtually continuous rain since midnight last night.
Hope that all the visits to the opticians/ophthalmologist have gone without mishap.

Shame about you missing your trip away this weekend, HD, but it might be a blessing in disguise, as there's the prospect of more snow sometime this weekend.

Oh wow that looks wonderful. I would love to see it. There is a train from us to Liverpool Lime Street but I am not sure it is possible for a day trip.

Grand pictures, WN. How long are they on show in Liverpool do you know?
We too have had rain all day, so only a short trip to Normanby Hall for a walk around the grounds, and then to pick up dog food, as we knew where we could get it here near Scunthorpe. Still throwing it down at the moment, hope it stops before our last walk out about 10:00.

I suspect it is Millie as on the way back to West Kirby there was a woman who had caught a train from Norwich at 10.00 and was on the 4.00 train to West Kirby. Trouble is you would probably have to stay overnight. Bring the caravan to Wirral CP for 3 nights or so.

Just one more photo as I don't want to spoil anyone 's enjoyment if they decide to go.

An auto seems always to stay in the highest gear so I find the best way of getting round this is the give the accelerator a quick tap with the foot which forces the gearbox to change down. It certainly worked on both my Sorento's and my two Venga's. I never really bothered with the manual side except just out of curiosity. I don't know how old your car is and how many miles but if it's new then it will need a couple of thousand miles to ease the engine. I am sure you will grow to love the auto box.
