I doubt it. Rowena never phones, she sends emails instead. More likely to be about PPI. Agencies seem obsessed with getting business to do with that!

Just out of interest are you wearing any type of brace on the knee? I find a Neoprene knee support helpful when my knee is painful. I use one like this They can be useful for walking but I wouldn't wear it all the time.

Just catching up, David, on what you said to me in my absence yesterday. At the time, I was busy commuting to work and then had a busy evening doing deliveries in the rain. I was too busy even to read what was said, let alone to participate or dominate the discussion! However, what you seem to be advocating is an exchange of pleasantries rather than a discussion as such.

Flying to other destinations is all very well but doesn't seem to bear much relevance to the Caravan Club or caravanning and this is after all a Caravan Club forum so that you would expect posts on here to have some relevance to caravanning, even if they are in general chat!

Yes I have read what Rowena said. However, responding to other people's posts whether it is to agree or suggest something else is not being rude or abusive in anyway by any stretch of imagination. A discussion is about presenting different points of view rather than simply being an exchange of pleasantries and I'm sorry if I'm sorry if my spelling this out to you is different from your view.

    Malcolm

You still seem to be under a misconception about the purpose of the Social Room element of Club Together. Most caravan/motorhome forums  I have had anything to do with over many years try to separate out the information and question elements of our hobby from  social chat. The reason for doing this is that the more hobby focused subjects form a useful database of information which is better maintained if not diluted with social type chat. Hence the reason we have the Social Club area of which General Chat is one element. Within the rules members are free to discuss a wide ranging number of subjects which have no real connection with our hobby of caravanning and motorhoming. So your second paragraph is completely wrong in its  interpretation of what can be discussed in General Chat, it does not have to be hobby related. I don't see any distinction between someone mentioning a holiday they are about to take or somebody mentioning how many pizzas they have delivered as neither are connected with our hobby? General Chat works at it's best when people are just exchanging pleasantries and generally chatting rather than getting too deeply involved in a particular subject. There is nothing to stop you creating your own discussion if you have a subject which you would like discussed in more detail.

    David

With regards knee support. The one that  occasionally use is designed in such a way as to support the knee from unwanted side to side movement whilst it heals without greatly restricting the normal desired direction of bending. I rarely need it but when I do its there the same as my (expensive) steel corset. smile

In your opinion David. I generally enjoy Malcolm's posts and do not find them off putting on this thread, It could be argued that, at times, the thread would be dead otherwise - in my opinion of course.

    Alan

The trouble with selective quoting is that it can change the meaning. What I actually said which was:-

"General Chat works at it's best when people are just exchanging pleasantries and generally chatting rather than getting too deeply involved in a particular subject."

Perhaps I should have been more specific by mentioning the What are you up to Today thread where it seems is what the majority of posters want as by its nature is a very generalised thread. If people want to discuss general subjects in more detail they only have to start their own thread.

The point of my post was to try and explain what General Chat was about from the Club Together perspective to Malcolm was that this section of the forum offers the opportunity to discuss subject not related to caravanning/motorhoming. which seems, from his post, he did not to understand.

Forgive me David but I was unaware that 'The Club' was intending to be prescriptive regarding the usage of such threads,

I selected that part of your post David specifically because I do not believe that there is a great interest in simple pleasantry (I hope that you are well by the way). There is generally a desire for more detail and indeed many posters do give more detail than 'hello, I am fine, are you all and by the way it is windy and raining here'.

Great news on the water front Moulesy.  Having been flooded out at home once, many years ago, I know just what it's like, drying out took ages. Good news carpets can be saved.

Good news, M. Hope that you are able to get compensation from the site owner for all the repairs. Glad to hear that you don't have the added cost of replacing your carpets.

Thank you, EasyT. I think you're absolutely correct in what you say. If there was nothing more to read than just pleasantries, people will eventually lose interest and the thread would be dominated by no other chat than just that.

Had a pleasant day out with the MH yesterday, driving down to the western end of Hayling Island and having lunch looking out over Langstone harbour entrance followed by a walk along the shore. A rather dishevelled car park that the local council have the temerity to charge £1.20 per hour. No MHs overnight either despite it being an ideal location for an aire. Mind you I can't imagine a parking warden venturing right down there at night though.

That's cheap in comparison to a multi-storey car park we used in Brighton at £5 per hour!

Thank you, DEBSC. It's impossible for me to have any contact with my ex-family. My previous marriage lasted 18 years, my ex-wife was very bitter, cynical, contentious and bad-tempered throughout those 18 years until the marriage broke up and ended in divorce. As she had custody of my son, she was able to influence him into breaking off contact with me. That was 17 years ago. Her influence over him is continuing today and so she continues to make sure that I have no contact with either him or his daughter.

Not my business Malcolm but he is an adult now with a child of his own, maybe he now sees things differently. Have you tried to contact him since the birth of your grandchild. Maybe send a small gift for the child and a note to your son saying you will always be there for him should he ever change his mind. But as I said none of my business so I will say no more on this matter.

You are right, DEBSC in saying that I was previously accused of star chasing. However, on this occasion, brue posted a comment 'reported.' This announced to everyone on here that a complaint had been made by brue against me. I later learnt the nature of the complaint from Rowena concerning excessive posting, dominating the thread and trolling in a way that was putting others off posting on the forum. She also said that she didn't think that was my intention but decided to notify me anyway about it.

When I first started posting on here about 4 years ago, I understood this to be a place where caravanners could chat to each other in a friendly and entertaining way. To me, posting on the forum was an entertaining leisure pursuit that could also give information about caravan related issues. So I cannot see anything entertaining in brue making such a report. This is not the first time it has happened. I've known brue to announce 'reported' on other occasions and have seen this kind of behaviour being protested on here before because of the disharmony it causes, both by moderators and other posters. Clearly brue seems to be pursuing an agenda and apparently getting satisfaction out of it.

As far as I'm concerned, I have never reported anyone on here. Yes, it would appear that others on here in the past have reported to Rowena that I have been bullied but I have never made any such report myself. Whenever anyone has made any kind of personal attack against me, I have simply taken it in my stride. I am fortunate enough to have a good enough command of the English language, having been to university and gaining a degree in it in 1977, to be able to present my case on here without  need of the assistance of the report button. Pressing the report button to say something against someone else just stirs up trouble in my opinion. So I DON'T do it. Many a time, Rowena has said to me to use the report button, if I have some concern about something that has been said against me, rather than post it on here. The problem with that is that it is not in my nature to go behind someone's back and thereby, make them feel that they have been treated in an underhand way. I just hope that Rowena can understand that.
