New to her, Helen, but happy with a decent s/hand one. She doesn't like driving the towcar but wants to keep her hand in.

If hubby can manage retirement then great but some people don't like it as they become bored. For us it was literally a life saver so no problems accepting it. Weigh it up carefully.

Too true David. My own brother was made redundant just before 50 and had a hard time coming to terms with it. Me? I've enjoyed it for tha last 17 years and still a whipper-snapper.smile

Best job I've ever had, retirement and the only one I didn't have to do an interview to get it laughing

We've only been retired 7 years so still settling to it but so far so good.

Hope you manage to work it out Husky

Managed to do 22 lengths of the pool today, 10 this morning and 12 this afternoon. Pretty pleased with that, then at teatime we did a nice long walk along the seafront and back. Can't spend the whole day sitting by the pool even if we are on holiday wink

We've both had a lovely day spent billing and cooing at each other.

Shame on you, I say. You're too old for that sort of thing. You should leave it to we youngsters!wink

However I do understand where the billing part comes from....paying for the new car.

Got interrpted by someone saying goodbye and wanted to check if still logged in. Naturally I was and edited it. I had hoped I wouldn't be caught 😉.

Couldn't edit it again so glad to quote you as I realised I'd missed off congratulations to you for your wedding anniversary and various belated birthday greetings to others.

Closing now to enjoy my day in the sun. Off for last meal with friends tonight it's getting close!

Just catching up, David, on what you said to me in my absence yesterday. At the time, I was busy commuting to work and then had a busy evening doing deliveries in the rain. I was too busy even to read what was said, let alone to participate or dominate the discussion! However, what you seem to be advocating is an exchange of pleasantries rather than a discussion as such.

Flying to other destinations is all very well but doesn't seem to bear much relevance to the Caravan Club or caravanning and this is after all a Caravan Club forum so that you would expect posts on here to have some relevance to caravanning, even if they are in general chat!

As far as I'm concerned, there's no way my wife and I can even consider flying anywhere other than an internal flight such as London to Manchester or London to Glasgow. The visa authorities have her passport whilst her visa application is under consideration, a process that we are advised could take 6 months. So without a passport, there's no way she is going to be allowed to board a plane going anywhere out of UK. We can still have holidays here in UK in our caravan but that is it! Whilst the visa is under consideration she has the right to remain here in UK but cannot go anywhere out of UK whether it is by boat, plane or car! It is simply not legally possible to cross borders with no passport!

Yes I have read what Rowena said. However, responding to other people's posts whether it is to agree or suggest something else is not being rude or abusive in anyway by any stretch of imagination. A discussion is about presenting different points of view rather than simply being an exchange of pleasantries and I'm sorry if I'm sorry if my spelling this out to you is different from your view.

David, the dictionary definition of discuss is to 'consider something by talking it over.'  So by definition, that is what a discussion should be, not simply an exchange of pleasantries. It means that if someone says something about flying off somewhere else, there is nothing wrong in someone else suggesting that they prefer a different location and giving reasons for that preference, which is all that I did! Nothing wrong with that at all, David. So your comment to me does appear to be rather caustic and harsh if you don't mind me saying so.

In life, circumstances can often determine what is, or is not, possible.

When my wife and I returned to UK in March 2015, there was the financial rule of us, jointly, having cash savings of over £62,500 in order for her to obtain a UK visa. We had to sell our home in China in order to comply with this rule. We actually realised a bit more than that from the sale. So when we arrived we had to make a decision based upon the amount of money we had. We needed some form of dwelling but we didn't have enough money to buy a bricks and mortar property. With under £70,000 it was doubtful that we would find anything other than a rundown property in a rundown area which we would need to spend considerable amounts of money to make it habitable. Money that we did not have! Furthermore, if it was in area where work was unavailable, that would have added to the difficulty. Our decision to buy a caravan seemed the best decision because for£28,000, we were able to get a brand new mobile home that we could park in an area where work was available. We spent another £12,000 on a towcar. Total £40,000 investment and we were set up with a home that was comfortable and affordable and we've lived happily in it ever since.

I post on here during my leisure time so that I can enjoy an entertaining discussion. That is what the forum here is supposed to be about. So I think people on here should lighten up and stop making out that everything I post on here is something more sinister than that!

Right now, I'm the only person who is posting on here. So it probably appears as though I'm dominating the discussion! However, it's early morning and although I'm awake, everyone else who posts on here is probably asleep. That doesn't mean domination of a discussion. It means that only one person is posting because no-one else is available to respond, neither does it mean trolling!

Thank you, Pliers. Now yours is a comment that does make some sense. Keep it coming! However, I don't think David is right in what he said especially if he's encouraging other posters to have a go at me or trying to stop me participating in discussions by making unfair accusations of trolling and domination against me. Also at a time when I was busy at work and therefore unable to defend myself.

Malcolm, You sound like a stroppy teenager that has been told off, not like a grown intelligent man that should accept the advice with grace.

It wasn't about me, cariadon. Brue stirred up a hornets nest by a report against me, that seems to have resulted in accusations of domination and trolling and has suggested that others have been put off posting on here because of it. That is a serious issue that I'm now having to deal with. All this because I responded to a comment by Tammygirl about a flight and holiday in the Canary Islands! How petty and ridiculous that is!

I understand what you say, Rowena, but it does seem somewhat unfair for others on here to accuse me of dominating a discussion and trolling just because I innocently replied and expressed an opinion to a comment about flying abroad.  Given the circumstances, such accusations do seem rather excessive, don't you think?

Unlike brue, I don't need to keep hitting the report button. As someone on here once pointed out, I have been valiantly defending myself on here for about 4 years now! I'm not the kind of person that would go behind someone's back and make unfair accusations about them. If there is something that needs to be said, I say it on here, so that others can have the opportunity to have their say in an open and fair manner!

Beginning to feel human again, tablets have started to take effect. Weather not looking to good for today, might take a run in the car down to the beach, but I promise to wrap up warm.

Then we will look and decide when and where to take our holidays. Brighton is on the list as our son now lives there, but that will be in Autumn as they have so many weddings, christenings and their own holidays during summer.

Not sure where else to go, love to return to Lake district, Yorkshire and the Dales, also last year we stayed on a CS in Blue Anchor, lovely location. Decision, decisions. That's what I like about being retired you can go when you want and for as long as you want.

Then it will be time to light the gas fire, close the curtains and watch some TV.

Given your circumstances, cariadon, a visit in November to Brighton seems like a good idea! The club site is open all year and in a lovely location, surrounded by hills and a park but within easy distance of the Marina, pier and city centre. A great place to be!
