Nissan X-Trail 1.6 DCi Diesel as Tow Car?

I'm looking at a Nissan X-Trail to replace my ageing (20 year old!) X-Trail MkI 2.2 DCi Columbia.

My caravan is a single-axle Sterling Europa 2004 at a maximum weight of 1300kg

The 'new' X-Trail is a 2018 facelifted N-Connecta, 1.6 DCi 2WD 130hp. While the Caravan Club matching tool says that the vehicle should be ok to tow my caravan - it gives it as a 4000kg max towing weight - I wondered if anmy forumers here had the one thing that online tools can't offer: Experience!

So do any of you good folks have any experience towing a caravan of this weight with that kind of car? I am asking especially because most of my trips involve dragging the caravan up the famous Telegraph Hill (Haldon Hill) coming up out of the Exe Valley towards Torquay/Plymouth in Devon!

Any advice gratefully received :) Thanks!

I'm guessing "it gives it as a 4000kg max towing weight" was a typo and you meant to say !400kg.

You could also try here for your potential outfit:-

Thanks Colin, and what a great resource that tow calculator is! Bookmarked it 😁

Sorry though but I'm autistic and I don't get the !400kg reference - probably a joke I think lol. Even me trying to guess is funny so it got a laugh anyway. A good way to start the morning! 🤣

[Edit]: Ah, I see, not a joke but it got a laugh anyway hehe. Tried the CAMC calculator again and it said the gross train weight was 4050kg, not the towing limit. Towing limit was 2000kg, so it's well within spec.
