Elddis Caravans
It seems, according to this video that Elddis will cease producing caravans and concentrate on motorhomes. Whether that means in years to come their motorhomes will just be re-badged models from Europe we will have to see?

I saw the report on one of the Northern Echo FB pages. It looks as if the final decision will be made by April, and if it does close it will the area hard.

It’s my guess the caravans won’t have a future unless they are rebadged European brands.

Continental caravans have really only had a minority following in the UK despite that some claim to of better build quality. Some manufacturers have tried to break into the UK market only to pull out a few years later.. The irony that the possibiliy that Elddis might sell Continental brands under its own name (if that applied to caravans) might be enough to change that?

Whenever we have looked at continental caravans, we simply haven't found a layout and facilities we like. For that matter, most of the UK built ones don't either, but the key points (for us) are the lack of decent cooking facilities and having separate seating and sleeping areas. Afraid we like like stretching our legs out, not sitting bolt upright. But I guess that is a lot to do with the weather in summer - warmer and drier, so people spend the evening outdoors more than the UK allows.

I used to fill caravan water cans with 50 lires of wine from a Co-op in the Rhône valley and then bottle it at home. And when I asked the wine man there for bottle labels he said, Yes of course, which labels would you like? We have several. What would you like it to say?
It seems to me that the LMC caravan factory at Sassenberg in Germany will very probably have Elddis labels available as well as LMC labels. Same caravans, but called Elddis, and perhaps little flags too for the UK market.

If we were starting out again, I think we would consider buying a base vehicle, and then look at somewhere that would work with us and listen to what we actually wanted inside, instead of having to make do with someone else’s idea of what’s required. That would suit how we actually wanted to use it, include all the design elements that are essential, ditch all the guff that’s not, and make quality control our priority, not rely upon someone likely to cut corners and put profits above customer satisfaction. It would be easy to use, capable of all year round weather home and overseas, not over heavy on tech we don’t need, offer a very comfy sleep, a decent shower, good storage for essentials, robust fixtures and fittings, good cooking capabilities, a roll out awning, a good solar panel/inverter and a bike rack! As much stuff easily fixable by ourselves rather than bad dealers.
Trade in value? Who cares. It would never be traded in.

@Takethedogalong Sounds like Consort Motorhomes in Leeds would be worth a look. Although they have their own designs/layouts I believe they are open to individual needs. You would also get a van that was built with expertise but at a price unfortunately.

TTDA, more or less what I did 15 yeas ago. I took my layout to 3 potential suppliers and asked them could they do it. Looked at what they had done in the past to get a feel for the interior finish and chose RS who also let me select a chassis from their stock. I chose one with an automated manual gearbox, cruise control and air conditioned cab which would make driving easier, especially on long distances in warmer climates. I still have the result 14 years later which will see me to the end of my touring days.
