Having just changed my motorhome, I thought it was time to change my avatar to something more relevant.

I decided to look back to the days when I first started motorhoming (or was it motorcaravaning ?) with a picture I took of our 1981 Leyland Sherpa Highwayman parked outside the Basilica of Bois Chênu at Domrémy-la-Pucelle in the Vosges region of France.

The building was started in 1881 and was finished in 1926 and is otherwise known as the Basilica of Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc. The village was the birthplace of Joan of Arc and the basilica is located on the site where reputedly the young shepherdess heard voices.

If you have a personalised avatar what significance does it hold for you ?

I have used a lot of avatars down the years. My current one is a beautiful painting we bought of the Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall. It’s a place we treasure. We love The Wall, and had our honeymoon up there a very long time ago. I started using it before it was subjected to vandalism, a symbol destroyed in one single night, by a pair of IQ challenged fools. I find it so sad that a view enjoyed by millions, subtly changing as the tree matured, immersed as a tiny point in a much larger historical landscape, was transformed overnight. At some point, I will change my avatar to something else, but at the moment still enjoying a connection to a lovely tree.

Mine is Queenie. A farm cat that knows she is queen of all she surveys, and we are just her underlings.

A fact closely contested by Sylvester.

I had a guy who worked for me whose Father was quite a talented cartoonist. For my 50th birthday he did the drawing below detailing the exploits my staff thought I got up to when touring Europe! My Avatar is just the face section of the said cartoon, never thought about updating it.

I've tended to use Avatars that include Nature of some sort, including Butterflies, Birds, A tidal estuary, a Salamander etc. The current one of a Clematis flower in full bloom from our own bush was used simply because I found its beauty and perfection to be worthy of it.

I would probably have changed it by now except the smallness of it when shown on the current forum doesn't seem worth the hassle. At least on the previous forum it played a bigger role.
