Anyone know what the A350 is like for towing, from Blandford Forum to M4 junction 17?

It’s a long time since we have done it, in a 4x4 towing a small caravan. It’s a very interesting route, but it’s not fast, lots of places to pass through, undulating and windy, there were plenty of potential hold up spots, but on the plus side, plenty of places to stop off for a break, or even an overnight stop. We did it in reverse, coming over the M4 junction 17, and heading South into Dorset. There might be more in the way of dual carriageway and possible village by passes nowadays. It’s a route to take your time over and possibly pick the time and day you travel, avoiding rush hours.

Hopefully, someone who has done a more recent journey can give you an update.

A350 between Blandford and Shaftesbury is fine if you take it steady.

Yes it's twisty and hilly and a bit narrow in a few places but perfectly towable.

North of Shaftesbury it widens a bit and has less twists and turns.

We've done it several times in the past, albeit with a smallish van, with no real problems. It's as Dave says above. But note that the Chippenham by pass section is in the process of being duelled and there are long hold ups at peak times weekdays.
